Tampa Cop Killer Suspect
Dontae Rashawn Morris Arrested Dontae Morris, B/M, DOB: 8/24/85, 7905 North Brooks Street, Apartment A, Tampa, was arrested in the shooting deaths of two Tampa police officers. The suspect also faces an additional murder charge for the killing of another Tampa man, Derek Anderson. Dontae Rashawn Morris, is accused of fatally shooting officers David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab in the early morning hours on June 29 during a traffic stop. Morris is charged with 1st Degree Murder (3counts), and Felon in Possession of a firearm. Curtis and Kocab were found shot on 50th Street shortly after 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Morris surrendered late Friday evening, July 2, 2010, after a massive manhunt conducted by multiple law enforement agencies, and is being held without bail. On July 1, 2010, TPD Homicide Detectives began negotiations with an associate of Dontae Morris. Over the next 30 hours, detectives continued a dialogue with the associate that eventually led to Dontae Morris turning himself into officers at an undisclosed location in the City of Tampa. The accused killer Dontae Rashawn Morris's unnamed associate will be entitled to the $100,000 reward offered for information leading to Morris' arrest. Detectives utilized ballistic tests from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to determine that the same handgun used to kill Officers Jeff Kocab and David Curtis was used to kill Derek Anderson on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, in front of his apartment at 5715 Stevens Court. Second Suspect Faces Federal Charges
The FBI Obtained a Federal Arrest Warrant for a second suspect, Cortnee N. Brantley, B/F, DOB: 2/15/88, 907 North Parsons Avenue, Brandon, Florida. Brantley faces charges for not reporting the murders of two Tampa police officers and is suspected of being the driver of the car in which accused killer, Dontae Morris was a passenger, at the time the two Tampa, Florida police officers, Curtis and Kocab were murdered. Charged with Misprison of a Felony - Violation of Title 18 United States Code Section 4 (witnessed a convicted felon committing a felony and did not report it) The Federal Bureau of Investigations was heavily involved in the investigation into Cortnee Brantley. Federal Agents, in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney's Office and Tampa Homicide Detectives, determined a federal charge was the most appropriate. Brantley knew the suspect was a convicted felon and she refused to report the crime. Morris's brother arrested
Also arrested was Morris's brother, Dwayne Daniel Callaway, B/M, DOB: 1/18/89, charged with VOP, Domestic Violence Battery (2 counts), possession of Cocaine, possession of Marijuana, with additional charges pending. Detectives utilized physical and electronic surveillance to determine Callaway's whereabouts. He was arrested at 1:30 a.m. at the Motel 6, 333 East Fowler Avenue. Fallen officers laid to rest Services were held for the two slain officers, David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab, at Idlewild Baptist Church, 18333 Exciting Idlewild Blvd. Lutz, Florida, on Saturday July 3, 2010. There was no Funeral procession. The graveside services were private and for family only.
