Eman Wiggs ArrestedScranton, PA - U.S. Marshal Michael R. Regan announced today that the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) and members of its Fugitive Task Force arrested Eman Wiggs at a location in Henryville (Monroe County), Pennsylvania. Wiggs was being sought on an arrest warrant issued on July 9, 2009 by the Essex County Courts in Newark, New Jersey. On July 6, an incident occurred in Newark in which a victim was shot by several individuals. The victim, Darnell Roberts, survived the shooting. An investigation by the Newark Police Department determined that Eman Wiggs and Bilal Farrell were the assailants. Wiggs was charged with: - one count of Aggravated Assault - one count of Possession of a Firearm without a Permit - one count of Use of a Firearm - one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon with Prior Felony Firearms Convictions - one count of Criminal Conspiracy On August 27, this case was adopted as part of the U.S. Marshals Service’s Regional Fugitive Task Force in New York/New Jersey (NY/NJ RFTF). Due to the seriousness of the current charges and his propensity for violence, the Wiggs case was given priority by the U.S. Marshals Service. The Newark Police Department added Wiggs to their Top 12 Most Wanted List. Leads were developed that possibly placed the fugitive in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. During the early morning hours of September 3, U.S. Marshals, members of the USMS M/PA Fugitive Task, and personnel from the USMS New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force made entry into a residence in the 1200 block of Haystack Road in Henryville. Wiggs was located and arrested without incident. He did not resist arrest, and provided U.S. Marshals with his true name. The arrest of Wiggs represented the 100th arrest made of one of the Newark Police Department’s Top 12 Most Wanted List. Just prior to Wiggs’ capture, co-defendant Bilal Farrell was arrested in New Jersey on similar charges. Wiggs, 32 years of age, was turned over by U.S. Marshals to the Pennsylvania State Police in Swiftwater. He will be charged as a fugitive from justice. Wiggs is scheduled to be arraigned before Magisterial District Judge John Whitesell in Mountainhome, Pennsylvania. If detained, Wiggs will be committed to the Monroe County Jail, pending further court proceedings related to his extradition to Newark, New Jersey. As part of the U.S. Marshals Service M/PA Fugitive Task Force, personnel from the Scranton Police Department, Lackawanna County Sheriffs Office and the Pennsylvania State Police assisted in the apprehension. Additionally, U.S. Marshals from the NY/NJ RFTF, as well as officers from the Newark Police Department, assisted in the arrest. This cooperative effort led directly to Wiggs’ capture. The concept of all USMS-led fugitive task forces is to seek out and arrest the nation’s most violent offenders. |
