CHICAGO LATIN KING GANG LEADER SENTENCED

TO 20 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON

Operation Broken Crown

CHICAGO —Fernando King, the second highest ranking member of the Latin Kings street gang in the Chicago area, was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern Judicial District of Illinois before Judge David Coar to 240 months in federal prison for Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and 120 months for Conspiracy to Possess a Controlled Substance. Judge Coar allowed the sentences to be served concurrently.

King was the day-to-day leader of the Latin Kings in the Chicagoland area. The Latin Kings are responsible for numerous murders and drive-by shootings. KING was convicted by jury in July, 2008.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew Porter and Nancy Miller under the name “Operation Broken Crown” as a result of a cooperative investigation by ATF and the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Narcotics Unit.
