Savannah's Most Wanted Arrested

A Savannah man listed as number two on the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department's (SCMPD) Most Wanted list was arrested by the United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, SCMPD K-9, SCMPD Detectives, Savannah Impact Officers, and SCMPD Trap Officers in Savannah, Georgia on September 21, 2009.

Lenard Kearse, 21, was being sought a state warrants for Aggravated Assault and a violent carjacking. The Aggravated Assault warrant was issued for an incident that occurred in the 1800 Block of 38th. The violent carjacking happened in the area of Webster Street and Skidaway Road. Kearse ran from a trailer on Duval Street and was captured near Savannah High School.

The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, SCMPD K-9, SCMPD Detectives, SCMPD Patrol Officers, Savannah Impact Officers, and SCMPD Trap Officers were following a lead looking for another suspect, Roland Parker and went to a on Duval Street. The investigators ordered three males and a female out of the trailer. When asked if anyone else was in the trailer, the response was another male. As investigators were attempting to go into the trailer, a male ran from the trailer, jumped a fence, and ran in the area of Savannah High School. As there were plenty of officers in the area, he did not get far and was apprehended. As it turned out, he was not the fugitive Roland Parker who they were initially after. The man who ran from the trailer turned out to be Lenard Kearse. By this capture of Kearse, investigators were able to take a SCMPD Most Wanted guy off the street. This case is another excellent example of inter-agency cooperation. Working together we can make a difference.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 36, 000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all other federal agencies combined.

The Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force has three offices: Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah. The task force covers the whole state of Georgia. The Savannah Office of the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of investigators from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The task force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last year, U.S. Marshals Task Forces arrested more than 58,600 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
