Legendary jazz singer Lena Horne dies
Lena Horne passed away Sunday at age 92. New York (WiredPRNews.com)2010-05-12 15:43:20 (GMT) – Legendary entertainer Lena Horne has died. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the singer and actress, who broke racial barriers throughout her long-term career, died Sunday at the age of 92. Friend and collaborator of Horne, Quincy Jones, is quoted by the AP as stating of the star, “Lena Horne was a pioneering groundbreaker, making inroads into a world that had never before been explored by African-American women, and she did it on her own terms… Our nation and the world has lost one of the great artistic icons of the 20th century. There will never be another like Lena Horne and I will miss her deeply.” Lena Horne’s film credits include “Cabin in the Sky,” and “Stormy Weather.” She has won numerous awards for her film work and music. Statement by the President on the Passing of Lena Horne May 10, 2010 - Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Lena Horne – one of our nation’s most cherished entertainers. Over the years, she warmed the hearts of countless Americans with her beautiful voice and dramatic performances on screen. From the time her grandmother signed her up for an NAACP membership as a child, she worked tirelessly to further the cause of justice and equality. In 1940, she became the first African American performer to tour with an all white band. And while entertaining soldiers during World War II, she refused to perform for segregated audiences – a principled struggle she continued well after the troops returned home. Michelle and I offer our condolences to all those who knew and loved Lena , and we join all Americans in appreciating the joy she brought to our lives and the progress she forged for our country. See an Explosive Kiss Show in Milan Kiss will be rolling into Milan as part of their Sonic Boom Over Europe Tour. The band have built up a reputation for having the most outrageously over-the-top performance with fireworks and fire-breathing aplenty, so it is odds on that it will be a very entertaining night out, even if people are not huge fans of the music. But Kiss are extremely prolific musically, selling more than 100 million albums over 36 years and going on endless tours during that time. The show is taking place on May 18th, with many guests in Milan hotels sure to be excited about the gig, particularly since two of the founding members from the early years - Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons - are in the line-up. The band's official website states: "The KISS legacy continues to grow, generation after generation, transcending age, race and creed. The unparalleled devotion and loyalty of the KISS Army to the Hottest Band in the World is a striking testament to the band's unbreakable bond with its fans." Beginning at 20:00 local time, the show costs between EUR57.50 (GBP50) and EUR103.50, depending on where people want to sit in the venue. Hardcore fans can also pay extra to take part in autograph sessions and meet-and-greets. If you're heading to the Kiss show this year, we strongly advise that you book your hotel Milano as soon as possible, given the huge popularity of the event. Air Supply’s Not ‘All Out Of Love’—or Hits—Yet! The Legendary Pop Duo Returns to the Charts with ‘Dance With Me,’ #1 Most Added on the FMQB AC40 Chart, #3 Most Added on the R&R AC Chart and #2 Most Added at Mediabase LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Air Supply’s millions of fans around the world know the legendary hitmaking duo is far from “All Out Of Love”—in fact, they’re back on the Adult Contemporary charts for the first time in many years with “Dance With Me,” the first single from their Odds On Records debut Mumbo Jumbo (due May 4). The album will be distributed by E1 (formerly Koch) Entertainment. “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” Just weeks after composer and vocalist Graham Russell was honored with a BMI Million-Air Certificate recognizing 3 million performances of the duo’s hit “All Out Of Love,” Air Supply’s new song was the #1 most added track on the FMQB AC40 Chart, #3 most added on the R&R (Radio and Records) AC Chart and #2 most added on the Mediabase AC chart. Many of the superstars Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock are sharing chart space with weren’t even born when the duo was scoring its most enduring early ’80s hits like “Lost In Love,” “Making Love Out Of Nothing At All” and “The One That You Love.” On both the R&R and Mediabase most added charts, Air Supply follows 2009 American Idol Kris Allen and Idol runner-up Adam Lambert and is just ahead of Daughtry and Nickelback. The duo’s “New and Active” designation on the main R&R AC chart is shared by Lady GaGa featuring Beyonce, Ke$ha, Barenaked Ladies, Kelly Clarkson and Colbie Caillat. Air Supply debuts at #43 on the main Mediabase AC chart, ahead of Clarkson and Lifehouse and just behind Mariah Carey, Lady GaGa and Katy Perry. Mumbo Jumbo is Air Supply’s first studio album of all original material since 2002’s Across The Concrete Sky. And speaking of Idols, another of its tracks, “Hold On,” features Australian heartthrob rocker Michael Johns, a season seven finalist. Air Supply is touring the U.S. this year after a whirlwind schedule these past few years that has included hundreds of concerts everywhere from The Philippines and Singapore to Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Israel, Brazil and even Vietnam. Rapper Michael Barber might be to Nas what J.Cole is to Jay
New York, New York (WiredPRNews.com)-Apr 06, 2010 – Rapper-Producer Michael Barber who has a co-sign from hip hop legend, Nas, might be the equivalent of Jay-Z’s newest signed artist, J.Cole. Barber isn’t on the Nas imprint label at Sony Records, he is signed to Universal Records and set to release his debut album “Shotguns and Canned Goods” this year. Barber, who was featured on 2008 Sony Records remix with Nas, “Kick in The Door”, is also credited with being a guest engineer on the Nas Street’s Disciple album. The song “Kick in the Door” was a free give away at Hot96 in New York, and the Vinyl single is a must have for all collectors. The key reason behind the comparisons to J. Cole and Jay-Z might not be the same lyrical, music type of angle but more of the future of Nas, Barber, and music distribution. Barber who started ECP Music Group last year with some of the biggest names behind the scenes in the music business, and has been working with the likes of Warner Music Group, Sony, and even Itunes/Apple with the next generation of music distribution. Barber has done promotional work with more artists than I can name even being the first to break the news behind Kanye West’s MTV PR stunt/hoax. Barber was also the first to report that his good friend, Kia Shine, was writing for Drake, and had won three BMI awards for “Best I Ever Had”. Drake issued a statement to Barber, saying “it is disrespectful to talk about points on an album.” Barber hit the ground running with his Universal debut album due out this year, releasing a song, “She’s My Pennie Lane” to FM radio, and the Aftermath Records produced “Stage Name”. Both hit in two different markets, one being a ballad-folk-hip hop type song perfect for pop radio, and “Stage Name”, produced by Dr. Dre protege-producer, Focus, is a strip club banger that is getting love on both coasts. Barber was signed to Universal Records after his movie based series mix tape series, Motion Picture Mayhem parts 1 and 2, were downloaded over 100,000 times and single handedly shut down torrent sites. After being released as a free download the second part of series was downloaded 8,800 times in less than a month on Itunes and Amazon. Nas might have found a gem, not only an artist, but a kid with the vision of the future of how music will be distributed. Barber’s ECP Music Group is being shopped to many private investors and record labels including the before mentioned Sony and WMG. Working closely with Best Buy, Itunes, and now LA Fitness, for advanced music distribution, Barber and Nas seem poised to deliver not only music on a futuristic distribution scale, but also give us the hits they have both been capable of doing over the last few years. Nas has an album with Damian Marley due out called “Distant Relatives”. “Clash of the Titans” Feature Film Soundtrack Released by WaterTower Music on March 30, 2010 Original Score Composed by Grammy-Nominated Composer Ramin Djawadi, Soundtrack to Feature Neil Davidge of Massive Attack Fame BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The “Clash of the Titans” Original Motion Picture Soundtrack has just been released digitally by WaterTower Music. The original score was written by Grammy and Emmy-nominated composer Ramin Djawadi (“Iron Man,” “Prison Break”). “Clash of the Titans,” the highly anticipated heroic actioner from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, opens nationwide on April 2 and will be presented in RealD 3D where available. “It was truly exciting to create the musical landscape for this epic film” For “Clash of the Titans,” Djawadi created a powerful score that features an 80-piece orchestra, a choir of 40 vocalists, opera singers, as well as ethnic blown and plucked instruments. The score was recorded in London and features solo instruments, including the solo cello and the guitar viol, played by Djawadi. “It was truly exciting to create the musical landscape for this epic film,” says Djawadi. “It allowed the blending of traditional orchestra with modern musical elements in order to create a daring and thematic score that sonically accompanies Perseus’ (Sam Worthington) exciting journey through ancient Greece,” added Djawadi. The soundtrack contains 23 tracks, with two of those songs featuring Neil Davidge, Massive Attack’s producer and collaborator: “Be My Weapon,” which was written and produced by Davidge; and “The Storm That Brought Me To You,” a song based on a musical cue in the film. It was co-written and produced by Davidge, and features vocals by Danish artist Tina Dico. “It was a joy to work once again with Louis Leterrier, who is such an inspiring director with a vivid, lyrical imagination and whose vision led me to encapsulate the movie within the song ‘The Storm That Brought Me To You,’” says Davidge. Tina Dico offers, “songwriting with Neil Davidge was a great opportunity to work with someone capable of producing such amazing soundscapes. His previous work with Massive Attack ensured that this piece of music would be of the highest quality.” Ramin Djawadi is perhaps best known for his Grammy-nominated, guitar-driven score for “Iron Man.” His film score repertoire covers a wide variety of genres, including the eclectic thriller “Mr. Brooks” and the animated feature “Open Season.” He has also achieved success composing music for TV, including an Emmy nomination for his main title theme music for the TV series “Prison Break.” ABOUT CLASH OF THE TITANS Louis Leterrier directs “Clash of the Titans” from a screenplay by Travis Beacham and Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi.
