Government Agencies Comply with New Presidential Text-Messaging BanFederal, State and Municipal Agencies See Benefit of DriveCam’s Video-Based Driver Risk Management System as Method to Control Texting and Cell Phone UseSAN DIEGO-October 06, 2009-(BUSINESS WIRE)--DriveCam Inc., a global Driver Risk Management (DRM) company, announced today that it continues to increase deployments throughout federal agencies as the agencies work to comply with the Obama administration’s new ban on text messaging behind the wheel of government vehicles and texting in personal vehicles if using government-issued phones or on official business. As a result of last week’s announcement, several federal, state and municipal government agencies increased their fleet deployments of DriveCam’s Driver Risk Management Program to assist in detecting distracted driving – adding to the thousands of government fleet vehicles already deployed throughout the country. Most, if not all, of these agencies are authorized to purchase DriveCam’s products and service directly from the GSA Schedule. In addition to the ban, Obama’s Executive Order encourages federal contractors and others who do business with the government to ban their employees from texting while driving company vehicles. In addition, the Department of Transportation is developing permanent restrictions on the use of mobile devices by rail operators, interstate truck and bus operators and school bus drivers. As evidenced by several independent studies (including the Federal Motor Carriers Association), the only way to ensure employees comply with these new restrictions is through the use of a video-based event recorder. DriveCam has been involved in these studies and the results show that distracted driving (including texting) is reduced by 52 percent when a video-based event recorder is used in combination with active coaching. “The elimination of texting will take a three-fold approach,” stated DriveCam CEO, Brandon Nixon. “It needs to be a combination of strong regulation/legislation, public awareness campaigns about the dangers of texting, and a video-based monitoring and coaching tool, such as DriveCam. We’ve been studying this problem for over a dozen years and provide the technology and services that enable compliance with these new regulations and help drivers become safer drivers on our roads. We applaud the Federal Government’s leadership to eliminate the unnecessary accidents and deaths that are caused by texting while driving. DriveCam is committed to work with all government agencies and contractors to assist with their compliance of these new regulations.” About DriveCam Inc.
