2010 Show-Me State Games Changes Columbia, MO, April 25, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In 2009, the Show-Me State Games, Missouri’s Olympic-style sports festival, celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. To kick off the next 25, the Show-Me State Games is making several changes for 2010. Many sports previously contested in August, including adult soccer and adult basketball, are moving to June 11-13. Other sports moving to June 11-13 include cross country, lacrosse, dodgeball, youth football, 3v3 Soccerfest, par-3 golf, pickleball, swimming and ballroom dance. Deadlines for these events vary, and details are available at https://www.smsg.org//. The Missouri State Senior Games, combined with the Show-Me State Games last year in recognition of the twenty-fifth anniversary, will be contested June 11-13 as well. The events will be separate with their own medals, t-shirts and many different sports. The deadline to register for the Senior Games is May 21. The other two weekends of the SMSG are scheduled as usual, during the weekends of July 16-18 and July 23-25. All sports are now open for registration at https://www.smsg.org//. One final change is the introduction of the Show-Me State Games Olympic Village on July 16-17 and a revamped Opening Ceremonies on July 16. While details are still in development, expect a festival-like atmosphere with entertainment and family fun geared for Show-Me State Games participants and non-participants alike. “Through these changes, we hope to grow these events and provide even more opportunities for health, fitness, family and fun for Missourians,” said Emily Lorenz, Marketing and Media Coordinator for the Show-Me State Games. The Show-Me State Games was established in 1985 as a non-profit program of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness & Health. Now the largest state games in the nation, the Show-Me State Games is hosted by the University of Missouri. In addition to the summer games, the Show-Me State Games offers events throughout the year to promote health, fitness, family and fun. For a complete schedule of events and more details about the Show-Me State Games, visit www.smsg.org or call 573-882-2101. Team Smith & Wesson's Bagakis Repeats at ICORE Southwest Revolver Regional
LOS OSOS, CA April 15, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Might as well call him John "Repeat" Bagakis, as the Livermore, Calif. resident, and Team Smith & Wesson shooter, successfully defended his Limited division title on the Hogue Action Pistol Range at the International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) 13th Annual Southwest Regional Revolver Championship this past Saturday in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Bagakis bested a field of 48 limited revolver shooters for the second year in a row by winning seven of eight stages and posting a final score of 168.83 that not only placed him at the head of the pack, but also third overall among all 94 shooters. Second place in the match went to Richard Brethour of Tempe, Ariz. who finished more than 18 points behind Bagakis, and in eighth place overall, with a final score of 187.31. Brethour took top honors on the seventh stage, and in doing so picked up nine points on Bagakis who led the match from the start. Going into the eighth and final stage of the match, Brethour was within striking distance, just 7.64 points behind Bagakis, but could not overtake him shooting 47.37 to Bagakis' stage winning 36.45. Finishing in third was Tom Hubbard of Paso Robles, Calif. with a final score of 216.89, more than 48 points out of first. Overall, Hubbard finished in 16th place and shared the stage seven win with Brethour. Fourth place, and 19th overall, went to Chris Sallee of Santa Maria, Calif. with a score of 219.42 while fifth place, and 21st overall, went to Seiichi Ishikawa of Montebello, Calif. Other notable finishes in the Limited division included Apex Tactical team member Lisa Farrell of Los Osos, Calif. taking High Limited Lady honors by finishing 11th in Limited and 36th overall with a score of 269.64. High Limited Senior went to Ivan McKinley of Big Bear, Calif. with 280.90, good enough for 15th in Limited and 42nd overall, while High Limited Super Senior went to Tom Frankel of Daly City, Calif. who finished 19th in Limited and 52nd overall with 302.57. In the Juniors category, Zachary Shepard of Lompoc, Calif. finished 21st in Limited and 56th overall for High Limited Junior with 310.54. Molly Smith, a Team Smith & Wesson member of Cambria, Calif., finished second among the juniors but took the High Limited Lady Junior award with 331.27 which put her 24th among the Limited shooters and 62nd overall. The ICORE 13th Annual Southwest Regional Revolver Championship drew competitors from throughout the Golden State, as well as Arizona and Nevada, and was the second in a series of six regional events sponsored by Smith & Wesson. The next regional events are scheduled for the first weekend in May when both the New England and Rocky Mountain Revolver Regional will take place. For further information on the ICORE competition season, as well as complete match results, visit http://www.icore.org. The International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts (ICORE) was founded in 1991 by Mike and Sharon Higashi, long time active shooters in all the handgun sports. Envisioned as an alternative to the "arms race" that was occurring in the other action shooting sports at that time, a revolver-only competition would allow even the most basic equipment to be used and still provide enjoyment and satisfaction. Mayweather vs. Mosley Fight LIVE – Who R U Picking? will be a display of talent and skill with Mayweather and Mosley meeting in a 12-round battle that is already being compared to other great and historic welterweight match-ups like Sugar Ray Leonard versus Tommy Hearns and Oscar de la Hoya against Felix Trinidad. “I think this is a fantastic way to see the fight and I am glad to give fans the chance to do it again on May 1 with my fight against Sugar Shane Mosley,” said Mayweather. “Going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do and I actually have a movie theater in my house, too. I can only imagine how great it would be to watch one of my fights on the big screen in high definition. Too bad I will be fighting that night; otherwise I would be there to watch it, too.” Mayweather vs. Mosley Fight LIVE – Who R U Picking? is the third boxing match broadcast to select movie theaters across the country through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network – North America’s largest cinema broadcast network. Fathom and Golden Boy Promotions first teamed up for the highly successful cinema presentation of the Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez fight on the big screen in September 2009 – the first fight to be shown in movie theaters in over 20 years. Last month, the two companies announced an agreement to continue presenting live world championship boxing on the big screen in high definition throughout 2010 beginning with “The Rivals: Hopkins vs. Jones II” featuring Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins vs. Roy “The Terminator” Jones, Jr. which took place on April 3. “Watching the fight on the big screen in movie theaters across the country is a fantastic way to experience a mega-fight like Mayweather vs. Mosley Who R U Picking?” said Richard Schaefer, CEO Golden Boy Promotions. “The partnership we have with NCM Fathom is a part of Golden Boy Promotions’ continued efforts to provide sports fans with an unparalleled level of entertainment.” Mayweather vs. Mosley Fight LIVE – Who R U Picking? will be shown in 416 select movie theaters including AMC Entertainment Inc., Celebration! Cinema, Cinemark USA Inc., Clearview Cinemas, Goodrich Quality Theatres, Hollywood Theaters, Kerasotes Showplace Theatres, Marcus Theatres, National Amusements and Regal Entertainment Group movie theaters, as well as the Carolina Theatre (Asheville, NC), Palace Cinema 9 (South Burlington, VT) and Penn Cinema (Lititz, PA), through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. “Mayweather Promotions is extremely grateful to have another opportunity to bring a big boxing event like Mayweather vs. Mosley to the big screen and theaters throughout the country,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO Mayweather Promotions. “Everyone in the theaters that night can expect to see a great night of boxing between two of the best in the sport today.” Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) is thought of by many as the best boxer of this era. Born into a boxing family in Grand Rapids, Mich., Mayweather started boxing at the age of seven. He would go on to compile an 84-6 amateur record while earning three Michigan Golden Gloves titles, three National Golden Gloves titles, PAL and National Championships, and an Olympic Bronze medal in the 1996 Games. Turning pro in the super featherweight division in 1996, an undefeated Mayweather faced Genaro Hernandez in 1998, earning the WBC world championship. Mayweather successfully defended his super featherweight title eight times from 1998 to 2001, then won the WBC lightweight championship from Jose Luis Castillo in April 2002. He began facing opponents in the junior welterweight division in 2004 and took the WBC 140-pound championship from Arturo Gatti 2005. Mayweather added the WBC welterweight crown to his resume in a win over Carlos Baldomir in 2006. Following a brief semi-retirement in 2008, he returned to the sport in a dominant 2009 win against the number one Mexican fighter in the world, Juan Manuel Marquez. The bout was purchased in over one million homes—only the fifth non-heavyweight fight to do so – and was broadcast to more than 240 movie theaters nationwide. Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) is a welterweight mega-star and five-time World Champion, currently holding the WBA Welterweight World Championship. Mosley has fought his way to world championships at lightweight, welterweight and junior middleweight; earning himself a reputation as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing and becoming a household name. Prior to turning professional, Mosley was a three-time National Amateur champion and an alternative 1992 Olympic team member; compiling an amateur record of over 250 wins. In 1998, Mosley was named "Fighter of the Year” by the Boxing Writers Association of America after defending his IBF lightweight championship title five times, winning all by knockout. He spent much of the early 2000s dominating the welterweight division, as well as taking on opponents in the junior middleweight class; earning both the WBC and WBA junior middleweight titles. In 2008 he scored a stirring last second knockout of former two-division world champion Ricardo Mayorga, to set up his 2009 fight against WBA welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, in which earned Mosley his sixth world title, the WBA World Welterweight Championship in a dominating knockout win. “Boxing on the big screen is like sitting ringside for all the excitement. The fight fan experience is second to none,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom. “With two champions like Mayweather and Mosley squaring off, this bout will be an electrifying welterweight mega-fight from Las Vegas. If you can’t be ringside, you can be a part of the action live with our HD theater experience, offering the biggest and most exciting way to catch a fight.” About National CineMedia (NCM) NCM operates NCM Media Networks, a leading integrated media company reaching U.S. consumers in movie theaters, online and through mobile technology. Former World Champions Kermit Cintron & Paul Williams Set to Face Off in Anticipated May Bout READING, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kermit Cintron, former world champion and star of “FIGHT-The Movie” (www.iamreadytofight.com), has landed the biggest fight of his career. On May 8th, at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA, Cintron will enter the ring to face Paul "The Punisher" Williams who enters the bout with a 38-1 record, 27 by KO. Cintron, trained by boxing legend Ronnie Shields (Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield), brings a strong 32-2-1 record with 28 KO's and is eager to finally have the match. "I'm extremely excited about finally being able to fight Paul Williams,” Cintron said in a recent statement to the press. “We've tried to make this fight in the past, but for one reason or another, it never came to fruition. Paul Williams is going to get the best Kermit Cintron the World has ever seen. I'm at my peak in terms of my confidence and where I am as a fighter. There is only one option for me on May 8th, and that is victory!" On paper, the fight should be a great one. Cintron's only losses have come to Antonio Margarito with major 'doubts' surrounding those fights. Margarito was caught with illegal hand-wraps prior to his fight with Shane Mosley, a fight ending with Mosely knocking Margarito out in the 9th round. The illegal wraps have everyone wondering if he also had ‘hands of plaster’ against Cintron, Cotto and others. Take away Cintron's 2 losses to Margarito and his only blemish is his draw against Sergio Martinez. Cintron was most impressive in his last two fights, a unanimous decision against highly regarded Alfredo Angulo and a dominant win over Juliano Ramos. Williams only had one setback, a 12 round unanimous decision to Carlos Quintana back in February of 2008. Since that loss, Williams has maintained a clean slate including a first-round KO in the Quintana rematch and a majority decision in his most recent fight against common opponent Sergio Martinez. May 8th is a big day for Kermit Cintron. He's come a long way from his modest childhood in Puerto Rico and having to fight through multiple adversities to keep his life moving in the direction of his dream. FIGHT – The Movie chronicles inspirational real-life stories of 11 everyday people who confront daunting challenges in their lives and choose to fight through them including the powerful and compelling story of Kermit Cintron and his difficult and improbable rise to world champion status after losing both parents by age 13. Additional notables featured in FIGHT include former Penn State Football player Adam Taliaferro, U.S. Olympic medalist Kristy Kowal and more. According to the movie website, $2.00 from the sale of every DVD is donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in an effort to find the cure for CF, an effort which is strongly supported by Cintron and the others featured in the movie. Another star of the movie, Nat Gallen, is a youth fighting CF.
