Airline Ticket Scam - IIMr. Schiff: An airline ticket scam in Texas included a subject who actually worked for the airline selling tickets!… Mr. Woodby: "The gal that was probably the main conspirator; she actually worked in the reservation office. ”Mr. Schiff: That’s Special Agent Tom Woodby at the FBI’s office in Houston... Mr. Woodby: "She was the one with access to the computer system and knew all the appropriate codes to use.” Mr. Schiff: Woodby says the man she worked with in this ticket scheme had a ramp job with the airline... Mr. Woodby: "He also ran a barber shop here in town which is where he made the vast majority of his contacts.” Mr. Schiff: And those contacts were the unwitting travelers who bought tickets and in most cases couldn’t use them. Meanwhile, Woodby says, the swindling couple had lots of money… Mr. Woodby: "The two of them were making a lot of transfers and deposits into each other’s bank accounts.” Mr. Schiff: Woodby says around a thousand tickets were sold this way… Mr. Woodby: "The dollar amount, which the airlines conservatively slapped on these was $670,000.” Mr. Schiff: The couple faced wire fraud charges and has to pay the money back. I’m Neal Schiff of the Bureau and that's the FBI's Closed Case of the Week." |
